The cost of bathroom remodels changes depending on the number of items changed. Further, how much you spend on improving each of them also plays a role. For the purposes of this article, we will be looking at four parts of a standard bathroom renovation and breaking down the costs associated with each of them.
Four Common Bathroom Remodel Costs
Water Fixtures
First up, we have water fixtures. Naturally, the “bath” room is relevant for its emphasis on water fixtures, including sinks, toilets, showers, and tubs. In fact, before the modern terminology took off, these rooms were referred to as water closets.
Either way, when looking at water fixtures as part of your bathroom remodel, consider the following average costs:
Tubs: Average $700 for material/ $3,500 for installation
Sinks: Average $200 for material/ $300 for installation
Toilets: Average $150 for material/ $320 for installation
All totaled, you are looking at around $4,000-$10,000 for the replacement of all your water fixtures. Naturally, the upper end is for luxury items and installation, but you can certainly find more affordable options with diligent research and planning.
Tiling
Tiling is one of the bigger ticket items on our list. Generally, the only item that could be as expensive as the tiling is the water fixtures explained previously. However, tiling has many benefits associated with its cost. For instance, water resistance, aesthetics, and easy maintenance are all core parts of the tiling’s appeal.
In terms of cost, you will pay more for a tile backsplash as opposed to just the floor tiling. Typically, the price for tile floor installation varies between $6-$15 per square foot, but backsplash costs begin just over $20 per square foot. Make sure to take your time selecting the best tiling for your bathroom to maximize your benefit.
Paint
Painting your washroom is actually a lot of fun, and relatively inexpensive. As long as you are using latex paint that can handle moisture, almost any product should work, and you can really go wild with customization in such a small space. Consider a tableau, theme, or another fun paint project to stylize your bathroom walls.
For painting, the cost will average between $30-$400. On the lower end, you may only pay for materials and perform the labor yourself, but on the higher end, it will include the rest of your bathroom renovations.
Cabinetry
People can sometimes overlook cabinetry as a part of their bathroom renovations, but they shouldn’t. Changing the space underneath your sink or in your medicine cabinet can be fun and exciting. Furthermore, for the small amount of cabinetry, the price is not exorbitant, which means it is an excellent choice for those on a budget.
In general, the cost to replace your existing vanity will run between $100-$4,000. Obviously, you can choose from a great number of qualities for such a broad price range. However, stay away from pedestal sinks as a general rule. They may look fancy and uniform, but the frustration of not having anywhere to store cleaners or other bathroom supplies will overshadow any aesthetic value.
